This year, Park(ing) Day proudly announces its partnership with the Parking Reform Network.

As a prominent activist and policymaker group, the Parking Reform Network (PRN) is dedicated to promoting equitable, efficient, and sustainable management of parking resources. Together, we're more than just providing a map for you to place your Park(ing) Day project. We're offering a dynamic tool for our participants to connect with like-minded individuals and explore possibilities to bring their projects to life. Join us as we (un)pave the way for a more vibrant and community-oriented Park(ing) Day and beyond street life experience.

In the spirit of this partnership this year's Park(ing) Day theme is Parking Reform Activism. In partnership with PRN, we aim to address the urgent need for street reclamation in our post-pandemic world. The past few years have highlighted the importance of rethinking our urban spaces, with the rise of Parklets and the success of initiatives like Open Streets demonstrating the potential for transformative change. Join us as we build on this momentum and advocate for sustainable, community-focused urban planning that prioritizes people over cars.

Why Park(ing) Day?

Park(ing) Day is a unique and exciting opportunity to engage in the ongoing dialog around how our cities are designed and built. It began as a guerilla art project and act of design activism in a single parking space, and has grown into a global movement, inspiring the creation of “parklets” and COVID-era “streeteries” in cities across the United States and beyond.

First Park(ing) Day Installation.

In 2005 the Rebar design team equipped with 200 square feet of lawn, a 15–foot–tall tree, a rented park bench and the desire to exploit the metered parking space as a site for art, activism and cultural expression, created the first Park(ing) Day.

“We have expensive housing for people and free parking for cars. We have our priorities the wrong way around (…) We are killing our cities.”
